Rules and Regulations of Mt Brace Outdoor Club and Taconic State Park

Violations of ANY of these rules could jeopardize local landowners, The State Park Permit, and the safety and welfare of many people. Failure to abide by ALL of these rules shall be dealt with as severely as possible, with the possibility of Police action where applicable.

1)    You must be a member of The Mt. Brace Outdoor Club to participate in ANY activities; air, ground or water. Memberships are available yearly or daily. If you are joining a Daily Pass, you must fill out a membership form, pay fee, EACH and EVERY time you arrive. A Club member must witness membership sign ups. You should have club sticker or day pass with you at all times. Club Members or State Park Police may ask you to show proof of membership.
2)    You must fill out a waiver in person each year to participate in any activities. All waivers must be witnessed by Club member.
3)    You must be a current USHGA member with P2/H2 rating or higher to fly Mount Brace Peak, Broken Line Launch, and Mt Race; they are all in Taconic State Park, and regulated by the same permits, and rules. Carry your USHGA card at all times, you may be asked for it by Park officials. If you are not current, you CAN NOT fly. P2/H2 pilots should be observed by Club pilots with rating P3/H3 or higher.
4)    You must sign in at the LZ every time you intend to fly. No exceptions. Park officials MUST be notified before first flight each and every day. Phone numbers are in LZ.
5)    Shuttles rides are separate expense. No vehicles are allowed to shuttle besides designated Club Vehicles. Access to Mr. Peschel private land is very sensitive, and use of the road is limited to our vehicles only. Do not drive, park, or hike up The Peschel?s land or road, unless driven there by the Club Vehicles. There is a State trail access to the south up the ravine/venturi. DO NOT LAND IN THE DEVELOPMENT, always land in the Club LZ. We have close to a hundred acres, and if you can?t make that, you need to stop flying anyway.
6)    You must be P1/H1 to practice on the Club hills.
7)    You must park and camp in designated areas only. There is NO CAMPING on Taconic State Park lands, except at Rudd Pond and Copake Falls. No vehicular activity allowed on State land ether.
8)    As Club member you represent our organization and are an ambassador to our unique for of aviation. You will act with courtesy, respect, and honor at all times. You will answer questions about flying, about The Club. You will offer help to those in distress.
9)    You will comply with ANY request by ANY landowner, neighbor or official. Flying and outdoor activities on ANY land in the are is governed by series of State Permits, private agreements, and insurance arrangements. Familiarize yourself with those. You are responsible for obeying them.
10)    You must wear a helmet and protective footwear.
11)    All pilots must have an active radio that operates in the USHGA bands.
12)    No acrobatics or stunt maneuvers in flight.
13)    No flying when winds exceed 26 mph.
14)    No launching downwind and extreme crosswind.
15)    All turns in flight must be made away from trees and other obstructions.
16)    Only ONE glider on launch at a time.
17)    No flying alone on the slopes.
18)    All flights on State land must be foot launched. No towing on State land.
19)    Always climb the hills on extreme sides, out of the way of other gliders.
20)    No experimental kites or gliders on State land.
21)    You shall leave the premises including State Park in the same conditions or better that it was when you found, and shall reimburse The Mt Brace Outdoor Club, landowners, or the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation for damage caused by you or any of your party: guests, children, chattel.
22)    You are responsible for the action of your children, dogs and the other chattel. Be prepared to restrain any animals.
23)    You are responsible and accountable for your actions in life, no matter what your lawyer says. By reading these rules and signing the waiver and membership form, you agree that you are familiar with all rules and regulations, you agree to not be a litigious Ahole.  
24)    Wave to all neighbors and people on the road. It?s a nice New England tradition, and it really makes the place nicer.
25)    The first pilot to sign in the Pilot Book each day is responsible for notifing the Park Ranger and should note in the Pilot Book that he has.
